The 73rd American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) Conference was held from June 1 to 5, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. This year’s conference was unprecedented in scale, attracting over 6,000 participants from around the world and featuring exhibitions from 184 mass spectrometry companies. The event showcased 384 oral presentations and 2,968 poster presentations, sharing the latest advancements in mass spectrometry technology.
As the only Chinese exhibitor specializing in independent R&D and manufacturing of mass spectrometers, PURSPEC impressed attendees with three innovative mass spectrometry products and three poster presentations, drawing extensive attention and recognition from experts and scholars.
- The Cell Portable Mass Spectrometry System, demonstrated its advantages of being “instant, accurate, user-friendly, and portable” through more mature and comprehensive application solutions, spanning clinical point-of-care diagnostics, chemistry teaching, and on-site rapid detection research.
- The Omega Lipid Analysis System, with higher sensitivity, broader lipid coverage, an enhanced database, more precise algorithms, and a more intuitive software interface (version 4.0 supports 4D lipidomics analysis), achieved a 2.5-fold increase in lipid identification at the C=C location level. Combined with numerous collaborative studies—such as disease biomarker discovery, nutritional research, and authenticity verification—it fully demonstrated the technological advantages and research trends of “indeep-structure lipidomics.”
- This year at ASMS, theGemini Dual Linear Ion Trap Miniature Mass Spectrometer made its global debut with a brand-new design. Featuring a pair of intelligent “big eyes,” a camera, and a voice-control system, its engaging human-machine interaction gave Gemini a “smart+” user-friendly appeal. However, that’s not all—in the future, Gemini will also be equipped with even more powerful data analysis capabilities to support advanced functions such as big data processing, single-cell analysis, and imaging analysis.

IJMS Best Student Paper
On June 4, the organizing committee of the ASMS 2025 conference summarized the overall situation of this year’s ASMS and also presented awards to the scholars who received various honors this year.
The International Journal of Mass Spectrometry (IJMS) established the Best Student Paper Award. Professor Zheng Ouyang from Tsinghua University, as the editor-in-chief of IJMS, announced the winner of the 2025 Best Student Paper Award and presented the award.
The recipient of the 2025 IJMS Best Fundamental Research Award was Ralph Aderorho (Clemson University, USA), for the paper titled: “Determining protonation site in fentanyl protomers using ion mobility-aligned MS/MS fragmentation.”
The winner of the 2025 IJMS Best Application Award was Lachlan Jekimovs (The University of Queensland, Australia), for the paper titled: “Making OzID go FFASTer: Combining stable-isotope tagging with ozone-induced dissociation to uncover changes in fatty acid unsaturation within neurosecretory cells.”
